Plateau Govt Provides Free Transport Services To UniJos Students Following School Closure

The Plateau State Government has provided transportation for University of Jos Students following the closure of the institution amid the growing insecurity bedeviling the state capital.

The Pendulum Media learned that the state government is assisting in evacuating the students from the university to the Old Airport Roundabout after the closure of the institution was declared.

The State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, provided transportation services for affected students as vehicles were authorised to operate even during curfew hours.

Mutfwang’s move follows the University of Jos Authorities to close the institution as a way to preserve the lives of the students amid the current danger in the state capital.

On Wednesday, the university management in a statement had directed students to vacate their hostels as tensions escalated in parts of Jos, raising fears over their safety.

It read in part,”The Vice Chancellor has directed the immediate evacuation of students from the university hostels in view of the general security situation and the near chaotic scenarios witnessed in areas close to the university,”

A report from Channels TV reveals that students were seen with parked bags as they move in small groups around the Old Airport Roundabout.

Residents have also been urged to remain calm as the state government works to restore order.

Recall, gunmen stormed Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North Local Government Area on Sunday night, March 29, killing at least 28 people, leaving others injured including some university students and staff.
