Oyo Govt Publishes 2026–2040 Climate Action Plan, Targets Global Investment
The Oyo State Government has published its Climate Action Plan (OYCAP) 2026–2040, opening the framework to citizens, investors, development partners and researchers worldwide.
Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, said the plan provides a science-based roadmap for addressing climate-related challenges while aligning the state’s policies with the Paris Agreement and Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions.
According to him, the framework will guide climate-related projects across key sectors, including health, agriculture, infrastructure and the environment.
It outlines measures such as improved flood management, wetland protection, early warning systems, climate-smart agriculture and interventions to address the health effects of heatwaves, air pollution and poor waste management.
Aderinto said the plan also creates opportunities for green jobs and investment in waste-to-energy, recycling, renewable energy and tree planting, while strengthening Oyo’s prospects for accessing international climate finance.
He urged local and international investors, development partners, financial institutions and the private sector to explore opportunities under the framework, stressing that the state was open to partnerships that support sustainable development.
The commissioner described OYCAP as more than a policy document, saying it would serve as a tool for action, investment, funding and accountability.
