Ogbomoso Indigenes To Makinde: Don’t Give Our Farm Settlement To Developers
Indigenes of Ogbomoso, under the aegis of Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo, have petitioned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over an alleged plan to allocate the community’s farm settlement to private developers.
In a petition signed by the association’s Chairman, Prince Aderemi Olude, and Secretary, Johnson Adekunle, the group rejected the alleged move, describing the settlement as a “commonwealth” that has sustained generations of residents.
The indigenes said the farm settlement was established in the early 1960s and represented an important legacy of the former Western Region administrations of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Samuel Akintola.
They urged the state government to revitalise the settlement rather than hand it over to investors, alleging that government surveyors had recently begun making incursions into the land.
“The farm settlement is a commonwealth, our livelihood, which has sustained generations,” the group said, declaring its rejection of the alleged allocation.
Copies of the petition were sent to relevant federal and state authorities, including the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Federal Ministry of Lands and Urban Development, police authorities and the Soun of Ogbomoso.
