Kano High Court Postpones Ganduje’s Alleged Corruption Trial to Oct. 14
The Kano State High Court on Wednesday adjourned the trial of former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and seven others over alleged bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation and diversion of public funds until Oct. 14.
Ganduje is facing an 11-count charge alongside his wife, Hafsat Umar, and six other defendants over allegations involving the misappropriation of billions of naira.
The other defendants are Abubakar Bawuro, Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd and Lasage General Enterprises Ltd.
At the resumed hearing, counsel to the prosecution, Victor Oni, informed the court that the state was ready to proceed and sought leave to withdraw an earlier motion on notice dated March 31, 2026.
Oni requested that the court substitute the withdrawn application with a fresh motion dated May 15, 2026, supported by a counter affidavit and a written address in response to the sixth defendant’s preliminary objection and application for a stay of proceedings.
Counsel to Ganduje, his wife and son, Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, told the court that the defence had no objection to the prosecution’s application. Other defence counsel also indicated their readiness to proceed.
However, counsel to the sixth defendant, Abubakar Ahmad, informed the court that he had filed a notice of preliminary objection, a counter affidavit and a written address, and requested a date for the hearing of the application.
Following submissions by counsel, the presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, struck out the prosecution’s earlier motion dated March 31, 2026.
The judge subsequently adjourned the matter until Oct. 14 for the hearing of the sixth defendant’s preliminary objection, effectively postponing further proceedings in the high-profile corruption case.
