JUST-IN: Lokoja Court Sets Aside Earlier Judgment Ordering INEC To Register NDC
A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has set aside its earlier judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.
The latest decision was delivered by Justice Isah Dashen, reversing the court’s previous order that compelled INEC to recognise the NDC.
The development was disclosed on Friday by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a post on X.
The ruling comes just days after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered INEC to register the Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA) as a political party.
In the Abuja case, Justice Obiora Egwuatu directed the electoral commission to issue the CDA with a certificate of registration within seven days after ruling in a suit filed by Tamunotonye Samuel Solomon Inioribo and two others.
The Lokoja court’s latest decision marks a contrasting outcome in the ongoing legal battles over the registration of new political parties ahead of future elections.
