INEC To Nigerians: Challenge Fake Credentials As 2027 Candidates’ Records Go Public
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on Nigerians to scrutinise the credentials and personal particulars of candidates contesting the 2027 presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections, urging the public to challenge any false declaration or forged document through the courts.
The commission disclosed that the public display of candidates’ documents will begin on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in line with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, which provides for public scrutiny before elections.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Lagos State, Mrs. Esther Emeh, INEC said the documents would be displayed at its Lagos State Office in Sabo-Yaba and at Local Government offices in the affected constituencies.
According to the commission, the documents are contained in Form EC9, which includes candidates’ credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by their respective political parties.
INEC urged political parties, civil society organisations, stakeholders and members of the public to inspect the documents during the display period.
The commission stressed that anyone who discovers forged credentials, false information or any other irregularity in a candidate’s submission has the right to seek legal redress under the Electoral Act.
INEC said the exercise forms part of its commitment to transparency, accountability and credible elections as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
