BREAKING: Orire School Abduction: Court Jails Three Terror Convicts For Life
Three men prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted and sentenced Abdulrazak Umar, also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid; Yunusa Musa, also known as Yunusa Bin Musa; and Shamsu Adamu Sani, also known as Abu Itisar, after they admitted being associates of the bandits responsible for the kidnapping.
The defendants had been arraigned on a 10-count charge bordering on terrorism-related offences.
Although they pleaded guilty to selected counts, including charges relating to concealing knowledge of the terrorists’ activities and membership of a proscribed terrorist group, the court sentenced them to life imprisonment.
The conviction marks a major development in the prosecution of those linked to the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Orire Local Government Area, an incident that shocked the country and kept the victims in captivity for 56 days before they regained their freedom.
