Akwa Ibom Police Nab Two In Separate Crackdowns On Drugs, Theft
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate operations targeting alleged drug distribution and theft in Uyo, the state capital.
The arrests were made on October 14, with suspected Indian hemp and cable wires recovered during the operations, according to the command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said operatives arrested Gideon David at about 9:30 p.m. following intelligence on the alleged sale of illicit drugs along Aka Itiam Street in Uyo Local Government Area.

A search reportedly led to the recovery of a large quantity of plant material suspected to be Indian hemp. David remains in custody as investigations continue into his alleged involvement and possible accomplices.
In a separate incident, detectives arrested Godwin Paulinus over an alleged theft at a company in Udoduoma, near Tropicana, Uyo.
John said the operation followed a distress call received by the police control room at about 2:57 p.m. A search reportedly led to the recovery of cable wires from a bag belonging to the suspect.
She added that investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and determine whether other persons were involved.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling drug distribution and other crimes through intelligence-led operations targeting identified criminal hotspots.
He urged residents to report suspicious movements, drug-related activities and other criminal conduct to the nearest police station or through established reporting channels.
Azare assured residents that credible information would be handled confidentially and professionally, while reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
