Abuja Court Sentences Borno Farmer Over Silence On Boko Haram’s Activities

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a 55-year-old farmer in Borno State, Ali Mustapha for withholding information on the activities of Boko Haram sect in his environment.

Mustapha, who happened to have lived in his Katara village was sentenced to serve a 15 year jail term because he withheld information.

However, the Judge, Binta Fatimah Nyako after reviewing the convict’s plea acknowledged that there was no government officials or security agencies to report to – as he lives in an obscure and remote village in Borno State.

The farmer who had been in custody since 2013 pleaded guilty and was arraigned without the option of fine.

Justice Nyako ordered that the convicted farmer should commence his 15 years jail term from 2013 when the convict was arrested and detained.
