Atiku: Tinubu Can’t Use Courts To Escape Nigerians’ Verdict In 2027

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will contest the 2027 presidential election, warning President Bola Tinubu that court decisions cannot determine who Nigerians elect as their next leader.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused the Tinubu administration of using political pressure and court processes to weaken opposition parties and allegedly push the country towards a one-party state.

In a statement on Friday, he cautioned against interpreting the latest court ruling as the position of Nigerians, insisting that voters must be allowed to freely choose their leaders.
“Let no one mistake the latest court ruling for the will of the Nigerian people,” he said.

The former Vice-President also alleged attempts to compromise the voters’ register through artificial intelligence-generated photographs, false names and fictitious identities.

He criticised the Tinubu administration over the removal of petrol subsidy, the depreciation of the naira and rising food prices, blaming its policies for worsening economic hardship.

Atiku also listed factory closures, youth migration, banditry and kidnapping among the challenges confronting the country.

Reaffirming his commitment to the presidential contest, he told his supporters: “I am in this race. I am not going anywhere. We will be on the ballot.”

He challenged the ruling party to face the opposition in a free, fair and credible election rather than rely on political influence to frustrate its participation.

“If those in power believe in their numbers and their record, let us meet at the polls in a free, fair and credible contest,” he said.

Atiku ended his statement with a direct warning to Tinubu, declaring that the President could not use the courts to escape the judgment of Nigerians at the ballot box.
