Oyo 2027: SSACO Accuses Makinde, Adekanmbi Of Dodging Governance Questions Over Alli’s Manifesto
The Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has dismissed allegations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, copied Governor Seyi Makinde’s policies in his manifesto, Oyo AHEAD.
The campaign organisation accused Makinde and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, of diverting attention from critical governance issues raised in Alli’s manifesto.
In a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, SSACO said the allegation ignored Alli’s extensive experience in public service, insisting that his proposals were informed by years of involvement in governance.
The organisation recalled that Alli had served as a council chairman, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff and currently as a senator.
“Alli is not a newcomer learning governance from press releases. He was a Council Chairman, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff and is now a serving Senator.
That experience from the ward to the Senate is what positions him as the best for Oyo State. You cannot copy what you have lived,” the statement said.
SSACO maintained that Makinde and Adekanmbi had failed to address what it described as major challenges in the state, including local government administration, inadequate healthcare personnel, poorly funded schools and the growing number of out-of-school children.
On local government administration, the organisation claimed that Oyo State’s 33 local governments had received approximately ₦873 billion in Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds since 2019, yet none had published its budget online.
It said Alli’s Oyo AHEAD manifesto proposed an executive order on his first day in office to guarantee local government autonomy, ensure payments to councils on a fixed date and facilitate monthly remittance of the 10 per cent of state revenue due to them.
On healthcare, SSACO alleged that six local government areas had no general hospital, while six general hospitals had no doctor as of October 2025. It added that 10 others had only one doctor each, while primary healthcare centres reportedly operated with an average of three workers against a national standard of 24.
The organisation said Alli’s proposed Oyo Care programme would guarantee free healthcare for infants, pregnant women and residents aged 70 and above.
It added that the manifesto also provided for continuous recruitment of healthcare workers, improved hospital facilities, regular medicine supplies, solar power for rural maternity centres and public healthcare monitoring dashboards in every ward.
On education, SSACO cited figures it attributed to the state’s school census, claiming that some public primary school classrooms accommodated approximately 100 pupils.
It further claimed that about 674,000 children aged three to 17 were out of school in Oyo State, describing the figure as the highest in the South-West, while seven out of 10 children aged seven to 14 reportedly struggled with basic arithmetic.
The organisation said Oyo AHEAD proposed reducing classroom populations to 30 pupils, renovating schools across the 33 local government areas, introducing scholarships for gifted children from poor backgrounds and establishing an Apprenticeship Law.
It also listed the restoration of School Governing Boards, an agricultural revolution, a ₦10 billion youth development fund, housing for low- and middle-income earners and a 20-year warranty on newly constructed roads among the manifesto’s proposals.
Reacting to claims about Oyo State’s liveability ranking, SSACO challenged the governor and his allies to produce the report, its publisher and the methodology used in arriving at the ranking.
It also questioned the implementation of the government’s one-primary-healthcare-centre-per-ward policy, arguing that the shortage of personnel in existing facilities undermined the initiative.
“Adekanmbi is not change. He is continuity of failure, continuity of centralisation, continuity of government-as-business. Oyo AHEAD is a correction. It is a covenant. And we will continue to highlight the issues that matter to the well-being of the people of Oyo State,” the statement concluded.
