Sokoto Seals ADC Campaign Office Over Savannah Bank Ownership Dispute

The Sokoto State Government has sealed a campaign office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) along Ahmadu Bello Way in Sokoto metropolis amid a dispute over the ownership of the building.

A media aide to the ADC governorship candidate, Aminu Abdullahi, confirmed the development to Channels Television, saying the Commissioner for Land and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, visited the premises with a letter demanding clarification on who occupied the property.

Abdullahi said the building previously belonged to the defunct Savannah Bank and had also served as the Peoples Democratic Party’s office in the state.

Dantsoho said the government’s review of the certificate of occupancy and other relevant documents indicated that the property remained registered in the name of Savannah Bank, with no official change of ownership reflected in the records.

According to the commissioner, the government had written to the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), which he described as the custodian of the property, to clarify its current ownership but had yet to receive a response.

He said the premises were sealed pending clarification from the NDIC, adding that the measure was also intended to prevent further disturbances and protect lives and property following an alleged confrontation involving party supporters and suspected miscreants.

The commissioner urged anyone claiming ownership of the building to submit relevant documents for verification, saying the property could be released to its rightful owner once the matter was resolved.

He warned that anyone attempting to forcefully enter the sealed premises would face legal action, including possible prosecution.
