Fubara, Army Deepen Security Partnership To Protect Rivers Oil Assets
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged increased support for the Nigerian Army, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives, property and oil infrastructure across the state.
Fubara gave the assurance on Friday when he received the Commander of the Nigerian Army 6 Division Garrison and Sector Three Commander of Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General Ismaila Sule, at Government House, Port Harcourt.
The governor welcomed plans to establish a new Army brigade in Ahoada, expressing hope that the formation would address security challenges and ease tension in the area.
He commended President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the military’s nationwide expansion plans.
Fubara assured the Army that his administration would increase its support to enable it to perform its duties effectively, particularly in securing communities and protecting oil installations and pipelines.
He stressed, however, that the partnership was intended to promote peace and development, not to oppress anyone or undermine the military’s professional responsibilities.
Earlier, Sule disclosed that the Ahoada brigade was part of the Army’s plan to expand from eight to 12 divisions, with additional battalions expected to accompany the new formation.
He said the expansion was designed to strengthen military operations and improve security across the country.
Sule, who assumed command on September 30, also expressed appreciation for the Rivers State Government’s support and pledged the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the state.
