NUT Raises Alarm Over Abduction Of Oyo Headmaster, Demands Swift Rescue
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has expressed concern over the abduction of a primary school headmaster in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of the state, calling on security agencies to ensure his immediate rescue.
The union disclosed that Mr. M.K. Owoade, Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was abducted by suspected kidnappers on his farmland at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The development was contained in a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Comrade Salami Olukayode.
According to the statement, the incident was reported to the state leadership through an urgent notification from the NUT Itesiwaju Local Government Branch.
The union described the abduction as disturbing, saying it highlights the growing security challenges confronting teachers and other education workers, particularly in rural communities.
It urged the Federal and Oyo State governments, security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts towards securing the immediate and safe release of the abducted headmaster.
The union also called for strengthened security around schools and communities to protect teachers, pupils and other residents from criminal attacks.
While expressing solidarity with the victim’s family, colleagues, pupils and the entire education community in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, the NUT prayed for Mr. Owoade’s safe return.
The union further urged its members to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities within their communities.
It also prayed for divine protection over teachers and other Nigerians against the growing wave of insecurity across the country.
