Bashir Ahmad Announces Prayer Gathering To Mark One Year Since Buhari’s Death
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has announced plans for a special prayer and remembrance gathering to mark the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ahmad disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X page on Tuesday, saying the event will hold on Monday, July 13, in honour of Buhari’s life, legacy and years of service to Nigeria.
“On Monday, July 13th, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing,” he wrote.
He described the late former president as a leader who devoted his life to the service of Nigeria with “commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism,” adding that his contributions to national development would remain an enduring part of the country’s history.
According to Ahmad, family members, friends, former associates and other Nigerians will come together to reflect on Buhari’s life and offer prayers for Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and continue to comfort his loved ones and the nation.
“May Allah grant him eternal rest. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged illness. His remains were later flown to Nigeria and buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
The late president served as Nigeria’s democratically elected leader from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023. He made history in 2015 as the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president in a presidential election. Buhari was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in office in 2023.
The planned remembrance is expected to bring together family members, former aides, political associates, supporters and well-wishers to reflect on Buhari’s leadership, legacy and contributions to Nigeria’s political development.
