Train Crash: President Tinubu Sympathises With India Over Tragedy in Balasore
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condoled the Indian government and her people over a multiple train crash that occurred on Friday which claimed the lives of over 280 passengers in the country.
News reports from India revealed on Friday that three trains involving two passenger trains, the 12841 Coromandel Express, the 12864 SMVT Bengaluru–Howrah SF Express, and a goods train had a deadly collision near the city of Balasore, in the state of Odisha in eastern India.
The incident, which is now recorded as the deadliest tragedy in recent times, has over 900 passengers reportedly injured.
Tinubu, while consoling the Indian government and families of the victims in a release issued on Saturday by Abdulaziz Abdulaziz described the incident as “heartrending”.
The statement read:
“My heart goes to the families of those affected in the unfortunate and heartrending train crash in the Indian state of Odisha.
“We stand with India in brotherhood at this difficult time. The magnitude of the crash and the high casualty figure call for global support for India to adequately respond to this calamitous accident.
“I send my deepest sympathy and condolences to His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of India and the families of those trapped in the crash.”
