Ekiti Police Detain Five over Fake Kidnapping
Agents from the Ekiti State Police Command have detained five people over allegations of fake kidnapping and conspiracy.
The defendants allegedly intended to stage a kidnapping to demand money but failed in their plan
The spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr. Sunday Abutu, acknowledged this in a statement released in Ado Ekiti and assured the public that the offenders would be held accountable.
“The Command received a complaint from one Adelana Ayomikun that his wife, Adelana Oyetuyi, his twin sister, Odeyemi Kehinde, and his three children, aged one, two, and three years, had been abducted by unidentified armed men along the Ise/Ikere-Ekiti road,” the statement reads.
According to Mr. Abutu, the complainant further stated how the kidnappers called and demanded a 100 million naira ransom.
When the Command Rapid Response Squad detectives were directed to the offenders’ hiding spot in Ikirun, Osun State; the callers turned out to be the alleged victims, according to the police spokeswoman.
The individuals being held as suspects in connection with the incident are Azeez Mistura, Adelana Taiwo, Odeyemi Kehinde, Alhaji Oseni Isah, and Hammed Wasiu.
The suspects, according to him, admitted arranging and staging the kidnapping to get money to pay off a debt due by Adelana Taiwo and Odeyemi Kehinde during questioning.
