VIDEO: How Electric Blender Almost Burnt Down My House- Wife Narrates Incident
A 36-year-old housewife on Tuesday narrated how her electric blender almost cost her a fortune after she carelessly left the switch on when power was interrupted.
Mrs. Abiola, a resident in Ibadan explained she was set to cook a meal after they returned home from work in the evening but unfortunately, there was no power at the time she wanted to start the cooking by blending some pepper with her blender.
She said her husband went to switch on the generator, now powered by gas-an alternative they switched to, since the sudden increase in the cost of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, known as petrol in the country.
Speaking to our correspondent at The Pendulum Media on Tuesday, she said, “We just got home from work and I was very tired but I knew I had to cook but there was no light and it was getting late.
“Immediately, my children were almost sleepy and I had to give them bread and tea so that something could stay in their stomachs. And when my husband returned, he switched on the gen, now powered by gas and I tried to blend some pepper but the Gen went off as soon as I started blending.
“While trying to get a hold of the children who were now crying because the lights went off suddenly, I forgot to switch off the power source. We then ate something light and went to sleep.
“But at 3:02 am, my husband woke me, calling me to see what I did to the kitchen. and behold, I saw the blender in flames on the marbled cabinet and everywhere turned black.
“My furious husband told me I will bear the cost and take responsibility if anything like this happens again in the future, he began filming the burning blender instead of putting out the fire first.
“He told me he was praying upstairs when the electricity was restored and tried to continue with the pepper only to find out the blender had blown up in a serious fire.
“He said, the first thing he did was to put the switch off from the source and then came to wake me to see what I had done.
“I just stood in disbelief, panicky at the same time, thinking of how I could have left the switch on.
Mrs. Abiola stated she begged her husband to allow them to put off the fire while he talked because she didn’t know if she should douse the fire by pouring water on the burning blender without it blowing over her face as “it was a heavy-duty appliance advertised online, a type that could blend bottles”. She said
“I dashed out to pick up my fire extinguisher from the car trying to see if I could use it to put out the fire but on returning to the kitchen, I saw my husband pouring water on the burning blender.”
She told our correspondent that she wants to share the story in gratitude to God, and also to admonish women to take extra care when engaged with home affairs.
Mo dupe ti won so mi loriko ti baba mi oso mi, ile mi o jona (translated: I am thankful I wasn’t called a bad name because of the incident, my house didn’t catch fire) She added.
