The Presidential and National Assembly elections which began today, Saturday across Nigeria have been marked as peaceful by electorates despite the long queues at Polling units.
The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has also casted his vote alongside his wife at Ward 11, Unit 1, Abayomi, Iwo Road, Ibadan North East Local Government area.
Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Adebowale Williams revealed his level of satisfaction with the electoral process this morning during his visit to the Oyo state INEC Resident’s Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adeniran Tella at the INEC state office.
According to the police CP, his visits to flash points within the Ibadan metropolis showed that the situation was calm while electorates exercise their franchise in an orderly manner.
However, confusion had set in earlier when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suddenly changed the Registration Area Centres (RACs) where electoral materials were supposed to be distributed and electoral officers dispatched to various polling units within the Ibadan metropolis.
With this development, many of the security agencies got confused as they headed to the wrong RAC points for election duties.
However, polling units were found in Primary schools around Sango, Oluyole, Liberty road, Iyaganku, Dugbe, Agbowo, and Mokola. Also, the Ojoo bus terminal was converted to a football field due to the ongoing election.
NAN reports that accreditation had started at some of the polling units with people coming out to exercise their franchise, while voters’ registers were just being pasted in some polling units.
Similarly, the INEC REC in Oyo state, Dr. Adeniran Tella also took international observers around the venue to be used as a collation center for the ongoing election.
Teller reassured the international community and residents of the state of credible and fair polls. Also in attendance was the commandant, NSCDC Oyo state, Mr. Michael Adaralewa.
The Police commissioner added that more measures have been put in place to ensure the peaceful process of the elections by deploying enough personnel to polling units across the state.
