LASTMA Announces Closure Of Third Mainland Bridge, Redirects Flow Of Traffic

The Third Mainland Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic on Sunday, October 23, at 1pm, and a traffic diversion will be in place, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

In order to help the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency recover the garbage truck that fell into the lagoon on Tuesday, the area will be closed.

Only motorists using Iyana Oworonshoki to connect to the mainland from Lagos Island will be impacted by the road closure and traffic diversion, the agency highlighted in a statement on Friday.

However, it was noted that the recovery work will not affect motorists going from the mainland to Lagos Island.

The agency recommended using the Carter Bridge and connecting “Ijora Olopa (by LAWMA Headquarters) to Eko Bridge to Funsho Williams Avenue (old Western Avenue) to Dorman-Long Bridge to Ikorodu Road through Fadeyi and connect the desired destination, or Carter Bridge to Iddo to Oyingbo to Herbert Macaulay Way to Jibowu to Ikorodu Road and connect the desired destination,” in order to avoid delays for drivers coming from Victoria Island, Ikoy

The traffic agency announced that security and traffic management personnel would be stationed along all detour routes to ensure the smooth operation of all lanes of traffic as well as the safety and security of all users. The traffic agency also requested the assistance and cooperation of drivers and other road users.
