Governor Oyetola’s Wife Attackers Arraigned on Four Counts Charge

Seven persons were arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate Court on Wednesday for allegedly attacking the wife of the state Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola. The defendants whose age range was between 19 and 40 were arraigned on the four-count charge of conspiracy, felony, serious assault, and malicious damage.

Addressing the court, Osun State Police Prosecutor, Inspector Asanbe Kayode informed that the suspects with others at large caused a breach of public peace by attacking the wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Oyetola, and inflicted injuries on her aide Mr. Benson Oyebode and a DSS officer, Mr. Femi Alabi by throwing a stone at them.

He added that the defendants unlawfully damaged the glass of three vehicles in the first lady’s convoy on the 19th August, 2022 at about 8:00 pm at Owode market, Ede. The alleged offenses according to the Prosecutor are punishable under Section 516, 249, 451(b), 356(2) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The accused persons, whose names are Omolola Paul, Rasaki HammedSolidiu Waheed, Tiamiyu Basiru, Olayiwola John, Owoade Mutiu, and Ibrahim Tunde pleaded not guilty to the allegations leveled against them.

Thereafter, the Defence Counsel, S.A Gbenle pleaded for the accused and urged the court to grant them bail noting that they would be available when the court needs them. The presiding magistrate, I.R Salami, granted their bail in the sum of #500,000 and two sureties in like sum.

The case has been adjourned to 26th September 2022 for a hearing.
