Why do Ladies Make-Up?

Most young girls at the attainment of puberty feel like they are not living up to the expectations of the society if they do not make-up or use some synthetic products. Men and women alike sometimes desire to look younger and not get to show everyone how old they are.

Why do ladies make-up? I’m sure the men are all saying, “Why else? To entice us of course!” Most ladies when asked this question, beg the question, laugh sheepishly, ruminate, and even meditate before they give an answer. Our ‘brethren’ refer to make-up as questioning God’s taste of beauty. But we do not need to be so prejudicial. There are several, good, justified and also bad reasons why ladies use make-up.

Some ladies engage in the use of cosmetics and beauty accessories to give themselves confidence. With all frankness, some ladies feel naked without their make-up: the lipsticks, eye-liners, blushes, foundation, their wigs on, their nails fixed and other things. It has become quite natural to them. It is a tradition for them which should continue and remain that way.

A number of ladies when asked would respond, “To look good.” Yes, looking good is one thing ladies have always wanted except on their bad days. From history, looking good has been paramount in the hearts of ladies. They go to any length to attain this. Poisonous lead was used by the Greeks back in the days; rice powder by the Japanese and other really incredible things. Getting the compliments, I am sure you all know is very important. Though, we try to be modest at times when we eventually get them.

Most ladies make-up in a bid to “flow with the tide” or “join the bandwagon”. Everyone wants to feel among all the time. So we have folks say something like, “Everyone is doing it, don’t be left out.” So, applying make-up is done as a conventional thing or as an ‘ordeal’ (as most men would put it). Most young girls at the attainment of puberty feel like they are not living up to the expectations of the society if they do not make-up or use some synthetic products.

Beautification

However, men and women alike sometimes desire to look younger and not get to show everyone how old they are. Or for what reason(s) would grandfathers dye their hair black while their female counterparts cover up wrinkles with foundation?

More important, certain illnesses, surgeries, accidents leave people with no choice but to make up and use synthetic products. Illnesses like cancer as well as accidents like fire could lead one to resort to the use of artificial hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows; do plastic surgeries and the like. I can also relate to this when younger. I went experimenting with my brothers, they being the adventurous type and also wiser in that they steered clear when the experiment backfired. I had my face burnt to a mild degree but I lost all the hair on my face. During that period till my hair grew back, I wished my mom had some make-up and cosmetics I could use so that everyone would not have to notice my empty, hairless face. Lots of people go through this and cannot help it.

Make-over

Having given these reasons, this doesn’t justify ladies who engage in ‘make-up abuse’. Please, endeavour not to misuse cosmetics all in the name of creativity. Be modest in your colour choice and look for what fits your skin colour. Also, ensure you buy quality make up products, especially those that deal directly with the skin and the eyes, not the cheap ones that may get the skin or eyes irritated. This accounts for my concluding sentence:

Let ladies keep looking modestly beautiful, and guys keep looking responsibly fine.
