‘I Was Done Being Average’ — Isbae U On Birth Of ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask’
Content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U, has revealed that his desire to create something different from skit-making led to the birth of his popular interview series, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
Isbae U made this known during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, shared on YouTube on Wednesday.
The content creator said he had experimented with singing, rapping and acting while trying to find his niche. He eventually decided he did not want to remain just another skit maker and began searching for a format that would set him apart.
“I was just finding myself. I was at that process. Before that, I was singing, before that rapping. I was just finding myself,” he said.
Explaining the turning point, Isbae U said he became determined to stop being “average” and create something different. He subsequently drew inspiration from American comedian Zach Galifianakis’ interview series, Between Two Ferns.
“I was done being mediocre, being average. I wanted to do something different,” he said.
Since launching Curiosity Made Me Ask, Isbae U has interviewed several prominent personalities, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, actor Pete Edochie and entertainer Charly Boy.
He said the concept was designed to reveal sides of celebrities that audiences may not ordinarily see, rather than simply asking conventional interview questions.
“The idea of Curiosity Made Me Ask is to show you another part of this celebrity you’ve not seen,” he said.
Isbae U also admitted that he sometimes gets nervous interviewing older and more established personalities, but said many of them have welcomed him and encouraged him to remain himself.
He added that he has not abandoned other forms of content, revealing that he quietly writes stories for other creators and plans to explore more content ideas in the future.
