Oyo Begins N1,000 ID Registration For Traders, Artisans
The Oyo State Government has commenced a data capture and identity card registration exercise for traders, artisans, cooperative members and industrialists across the state’s 33 local government areas.
Each beneficiary is expected to pay ₦1,000 for the identity card, which the government says will help create a reliable database for economic planning and improve access to government interventions.
The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Prof. Salihu Abdulwaheed Adelabu, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement organised by the ministry in Ibadan.
Adelabu said the government needed accurate information on the number and distribution of businesses and economic operators across the state to plan effectively.
The ministry has engaged Global Sight Services Limited to coordinate the registration and production of the cards.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olajide Mamud Okesade, the cards will feature security and verification measures, including a QR code and chip, and are expected to be ready within one month of registration.
The consultant, Dayo Bello, said beneficiaries’ details would be linked to verified information, including their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN), to reduce duplication and fraudulent claims.
He added that the cards would be produced in ATM-card format and linked to beneficiaries’ verified bank accounts, with the ₦1,000 registration fee paid into the beneficiary’s account.
EXPOYO 2026
Meanwhile, the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to hosting EXPOYO 2026, with a fresh memorandum being prepared for Governor Seyi Makinde’s approval.
The Vice President of the Oyo State Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Alhaji Abiola Alli, urged the government to approve the proposed last week of October date early enough to allow exhibitors, investors and development partners to prepare.
