Makinde’s Surveillance Aircraft Touch Down As Oyo Boosts Security Fight
The Oyo State Government has confirmed the arrival of the two surveillance aircraft acquired to strengthen security operations and improve intelligence gathering across the state.
Announcing the development, Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, described the delivery as another milestone in the state’s efforts to reinforce its security architecture through enhanced aerial surveillance.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who was at the airport to receive the aircraft, said the investment was driven by Oyo’s vast landmass and the need to complement security personnel on the ground with rapid aerial intelligence.
According to the governor, the aircraft will become operational immediately through a partnership with the Nigerian Air Force under a Memorandum of Understanding already reached between both parties.
Makinde noted that although the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area was unforeseen when the aircraft were ordered, the investment has proven timely.
“We planned for it so that we would be able to cover as much of the state’s landmass as possible within the shortest time,” he said.
He stressed that security remains the foundation for development, expressing confidence that the aircraft would improve surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response to criminal activities across Oyo State.
The aircraft are expected to support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other security formations, in ongoing efforts to combat insecurity across the state.
