NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results, Announces July 22–23 Re-sit For Mathematics And English
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with a total of 186,291 candidates participating in the exercise.
The candidates, who sat for examinations in 12 subjects, were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.
According to NECO, the examination commenced on April 20 and concluded on April 30, 2026.
The release of the results followed the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, where the results were formally approved.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. Folake Olatunji David, who is the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and representative of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes that culminated in the successful release of the results.
Dr. David commended NECO for ensuring a smooth conduct of the examination and timely processing of the results.
The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country, alongside members of NECO’s management team.
Meanwhile, the Award Committee approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
The re-sit examination is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects. It offers affected candidates an opportunity to remedy the deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without having to repeat an academic year.
NECO urged candidates and stakeholders to take note of the approved dates and make the necessary preparations for the re-sit examination.
