Oyo NUT Elects New Executives
The Oyo State wing of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has elected new executive members to oversee the affairs of the union for the next four years.
The election was held on Wednesday during the union’s 8th Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Speaking at the opening session of the conference, the National President of the NUT, Comrade Titus Audu Amba, said the union was founded on democratic principles, making periodic elections an essential part of its administration at national, state and local government levels.
Represented by the National Social Secretary, Comrade Titi Ade Adebanjo, Amba reaffirmed the union’s commitment to promoting improved welfare and better conditions for teaching and learning across the country.
The outgoing state chairman, Comrade Raji Oladimeji Ismael, highlighted major achievements recorded between 2022 and 2026, particularly in the areas of teachers’ welfare, professional development and infrastructure.
According to him, the union facilitated prompt salary payments, promotion arrears, annual increments and pension-related interventions, while also resolving cases involving wrongful postings, salary stoppages and victimisation through its Legal and Welfare Committees.
He added that sustained advocacy by the union led to the recruitment of additional teaching and non-teaching staff, easing workloads and improving teacher-pupil ratios across schools.
Comrade Raji also noted that the union organised training programmes and mentorship sessions for young teachers, while embarking on several infrastructural projects, including the renovation of the State Secretariat, establishment of NUT Model Schools, construction of classrooms, expansion of the NUT Resource Centre and development of an Olympic-size sports complex.
He said despite challenges such as rising living costs, inadequate facilities and insecurity in some communities, the union remained optimistic that the incoming leadership would build on the achievements recorded.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, pledged to work with members and stakeholders to reposition the union and improve the welfare of teachers across the state.

Hassan, a teacher at Migrant Farmers Primary School, Igbo-Iroko, Kishi, also promised to uphold the integrity, dignity and professionalism of the teaching profession.
Other newly elected executives include Adeleke Adesina as Deputy Chairman, Alonge Oluyemisi as First Vice Chairman, Morakinyo Oyebola as Second Vice Chairman, Badmus Abiona as Third Vice Chairman, Bello Folasade as Fourth Vice Chairman, Titilolu Ibukunolu as Treasurer, Dada Kabirat as First Internal Auditor, Akinjide Yusuf as Second Auditor and Ajala Niyi as Publicity Secretary.
Others are Alao Femi as Social Secretary, Areo Felicia as Assistant Social Secretary, Mobolaji Ademola as State National Representative and James Ruth as Editor.
