‘This Government Is Too Removed From People’ — Baba-Ahmed Criticises Tinubu’s Administration, Warns of Instability
The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as disconnected from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview with newsmen, Baba-Ahmed said the country is currently experiencing one of its most difficult periods, marked by worsening insecurity, deepening poverty, and growing social divisions.
He argued that the government appears largely removed from the daily struggles of citizens, noting that many Nigerians—particularly the youth—are increasingly losing hope due to limited opportunities and a perceived lack of national direction.
According to him, these challenges have eroded trust within society, with rising tensions and divisions across various communities.
Baba-Ahmed warned that unless urgent changes are made, Nigeria risks further decline, stressing the importance of political transformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We’ve never been in a war situation more than we are now. We have a government that is too removed from the people,” he said.
“They don’t really understand the state in which Nigerians live. We are living with the highest level of insecurity we have ever experienced. Poverty levels are unprecedented, and young people have no hope. There is nothing to inspire them to be productive citizens.”
He added that the country is now more divided than ever, cautioning that a continuation of the current administration could worsen the situation.
Addressing claims that opposition to the President is politically motivated, the PRP chairman dismissed such assertions, insisting that public dissatisfaction stems from real hardships faced by Nigerians.
He attributed the country’s worsening condition to unchecked criminal activities, including banditry and kidnapping, and criticised the government’s handling of security challenges.
“If there is any gang-up,” he said, “it is by criminals, bandits, and kidnappers who continue to operate because they have not been effectively contained.”
Baba-Ahmed urged the government to prioritise security and citizens’ welfare, maintaining that restoring public confidence requires decisive action against insecurity and economic hardship.
