The Kano State government has made public the arrest of several goats in police custody.
The unfortunate goats were alleged to have eaten newly planted tree seedlings under Kano government ‘s urban renewal project.
Speaking on Friday in a statement, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change Dr. Dahir M. Hashim expressed on Friday said several goats have already been taken into custody at Zone I of the Nigeria Police Command in Kano.
He said, “As part of our ongoing Urban Renewal Project, we’ve begun planting trees along major roads, starting with Lodge Road and Race Course.
“This initiative is aimed at reducing heat and air pollution, while also enhancing the beauty of Kano city.
“We’ve received complaints that some residents are allowing their goats to roam freely, and these animals are damaging the young trees we’ve just planted,”
“I want to make it clear: this will not be tolerated. We have already impounded several goats found eating the new trees.”
The ministry noted that the goats are currently in police custody as enforcement teams continue to monitor compliance across the city.
Dr. Hashim, however, appealed to residents to take responsibility and support the government’s efforts to green Kano.
“We’re calling on the public to work with us to protect these efforts. Together, we can build a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Kano,” he added.
