Obasanjo Honours Late US President Jimmy Carter With Memorial Service

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has on Sunday held a memorial service for the late United States President, Jimmy Carter.

Obasanjo’s special assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi in a statement on Saturday had disclosed that a memorial service will be held for the 39th US President, Carter.

Jimmy Carter, a close friend to the
foremost Africanist Obasanjo died on December 29, 2024, at age 100, in Plains, Georgia, USA after a brief illness.

The memorial service, as publicised by Akinyemi took place on Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital at the Chapel of Christ, The Glorious King of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta at 9:00am.

Rev Israel Akanji, President of the Baptist Convention, was said to have presented a special sermon on the occasion, as Obasanjo delivered a special tribute on “Jimmy Carter: The Departure of a Titan”.

Carter was the longest-living U.S. president and the first to reach 100 years of age.
