JUST-IN: Islamic High School Principal Arrested Over Ibadan Children Carnival’s Tragedy
Following the unfortunate stampede that occurred in Ibadan on Wednesday at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan where over 30 children lost their lives as they struggle to get Christmas gifts from the organisers.
The State Government through the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade had said in a statement that response teams were deployed to provide assistance at the scene of the incident and also distanced itself from having any form of involvement with the said carnival.
Oyelade also assured the concerned parents that the government will do everything in its power to stand by them in these trying times.
Many have since looked forward to who to hold responsible for the tragic incident.
In a new development, The Pendulum Media gathered that the Oyo State Police Command have detained the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi.
Fasasi was invited by the police on Wednesday and has been detained since then which according to reports is in connection with the stampede that occurred at the school on Wednesday.
The incident took place during a children’s carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, held at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.
A source close to the principal pleaded anonymity and told Daily Post that Fasasi was invited by the police around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and he honored the invitation.
The source added that Fasasi is being held at the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, in the Iyaganku area and he is yet to be released.
He said, “The principal of the school, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, has been detained by the police.
“He was invited around 4:00 p.m. yesterday, and he honored the invitation.
“He has been detained since then. He has not been released,”.
The response team sent by the government took the children to
Patnas Hospital, Basorun, Western Hospital, Basorun, Ringroad State Hospital, Molly Specialist Hospital and University College Hospital (UCH) asking parents to go and check on their welfare with means of identification.
