You Don’t Need To Demolish Any Property, Call Experts: Netizens Weigh In Over Lagos Lady’s Building Marked For Demolition
The attention of internet users have been drawn to the plight of a crying lady in a viral video whose house was marked for demolition by Lagos State Government .
In the trending video, the woman was seen crying and lamenting over
the demolition notice served on her property in Lagos State allegedly just two months after moving in.
The video, shared on X platform by #Spotlight_Abby, had a picture of the demolition notice dated May 7, 2024, attached to the video.
According to the woman, the property was bought just two months ago after labouring so hard and she is confused on what to tell her son anytime he sees her in tears.
“We bought that property in February, and we’ve only been there for two months. All the hard work, all the sleepless nights, everything… If you’re in Lagos, you’ll know how much property in Eti Osa costs.
“Each time my son sees me crying, he will always ask me why I am crying. How do I explain this to our son? What do I tell my children? I’m trying so hard to be strong, but this is very painful.
“I don’t wish for anybody to work so hard and face something like this. I don’t.” She said.
Many including one educare.consult have sympathised and reacted to the issue.
He said, “If we have a thinking government, you don’t need to demolish any property. Put the plan on the table and call experts to do a proposal on how they could rechannel the drainage system and ask the people affected to pay for it. You don’t just go about demolishing other people’s property for the sake of drainage”

Recall that last week, Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade berated the Lagos State Government over its decision to demolish houses
at Arowojogbe in Mende estate.
The singer said: “What is happening? Does it make sense for people to invest millions of dollars in real estate, buy houses, purchase land, and then have the Lagos State government demolish walls, break houses, and leave people homeless overnight? This is being done seriously and continuously. Currently, the Maryland Mende area is experiencing this turmoil.
“People go to sleep in their homes and wake up the next day homeless. This not only devalues real estate in Nigeria and Lagos but also destroys people’s trust, not just in the concept of Nigeria, but entirely in the modest savings they’ve accumulated to improve their lives and create generational wealth.”
She also suggested that alternatives should be considered rather than demolishing multi-million dollar houses.
However, in a report published by Punch Newspaper, the state commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab who spoke on the recent demolition revealed that most of the victims have been issued demolition notices since 2021.
She also mentioned that there is a possiblity for illegal builders whose houses are marked for demolition to be asked to pay for the demolition.
