Woman Crushed To Death By Tanker In Ughelli

A woman was crushed to death on Saturday morning, May 17, 2025, at Otovwodo junction near Delta Line Motor Park in Ughelli, Delta State.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. when a commercial motorcycle carrying the woman attempted to overtake a moving tanker while another tanker was approaching from behind.

Eyewitnesses said the motorcycle was trapped between the two tankers. The rear tanker hit the bike, causing both the rider and the passenger to fall. The rider quickly escaped, but the woman was crushed under the rear tanker’s tires and dragged a short distance on the road.

Her body was badly mutilated, with visible injuries to the head, chest, and abdomen. Blood and body parts were seen on the road as onlookers gathered in shock.

Security officials arrived at the scene shortly after to control the crowd. The driver of the tanker has been taken into custody for questioning.

The identity of the deceased was yet to be confirmed at the time of this report.

The accident has raised fresh concerns about road safety and reckless driving involving tankers and commercial motorcyclists in busy areas like motor parks and markets.

Currently the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other officials are on the accident scene trying to evacuate the corpse and control the traffic.
