A mixed-feeling reaction was felt amongst the residents and passers-by at the Basorun area in the city of Ibadan during and after a fire incident gutted a full-fuel tank at a popular filling station called Olarem this morning.
Our correspondences, Wisdom Umoru and Olamide Olayanju gave a vivid report of the tragic occurrence of how the events unfolded.
At about 7:15 am on the 21st day of January 2022, a fuel tanker had driven to Olarem filling station to off-load his fuel when he discovered that fire had gutted the base of his tank. This driver, according to our correspondence and other eyewitnesses confirmed that the driver did a heroic thing to contain the fire.
He was said to have driven the inflamed fuel truck out of the filling station across the main road. In the process, his truck battery went off and he had to look for another battery so that he could move out of the station in time.
However, he achieved success as only the front part of the filling station and the frontal surroundings of a car-dealer office on the other side of the road gutted fire.
The Oyo state firefighters, state police department, and other concerned agencies were at the scene to ensure that the fire was completely doused and also guarantee the safety of the people in the environment.
In conclusion, many thank God for his mercies and safety on how the supposed tragic occurrence was brought to an end as 90% of the filling station, school children, make-shift stalls, as well as other moving vehicles at the time of filing this report, were saved while others discussed on how the fuel tank could have been saved completely.
The Basorun environment has however resumed activities for the day and other vehicles had to explore other roads to aid their movements until the burnt truck is evacuated from the road.
