Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Thursday experienced the nationwide protests against hunger and scarcity of essential commodities organised by some groups.
Our correspondents at The Pendulum Media gathered that the protest began early on Thursday morning at different strategic locations.
Many of the youths were seen walking peacefully from Ojoo to Iwo road, holding leaves and chanting ‘Tinubu Ole’- translated ‘Tinubu thief’ all the way.
One of the groups started its protest in front of the University of Ibadan while another one began at the Mokola roundabout and another at Dugbe.
Economic activities in most parts of Ibadan, were paralysed as commercial banks, petroleum stations, shopping malls, markets and shops, schools, government establishments and other public infrastructures in major parts of Ibadan were shut down.
The Pendulum Media also observed that most people deserted the major roads and stayed indoors except for the protesters.
The Eleyele -Eruwa Road, Eleyele -Dugbe Road, Sango -Eleyeye Road, and Challenge- Ring Road were deserted with only a few people passing the roads.
A similar situation was observed in areas such as Bodija, Ojoo, Mokola, Total Garden, Agodi Gate and Iwo Road to Idi-Ape.
One of our reporters in Oyo town said, “Nothing is really going on. Everywhere seems to be fine. Though, some protesters were seen at Owode junction, as the Nigerian Police stayed at alert watching their demonstrations.”
He added that roads users are currently going about with their daily activities.
