Veteran Nigerian Musician, Onyeka Onwenu Dies At 72

Veteran singer, broadcaster and actress Onyeka Onwenu is reportedly dead.

An eyewitness who was at the birthday party of Mrs Stella Okoli, Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals confirmed the sad news to TheNiche.

The songstress, Onwenu reportedly slumped after performing at the party and was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos but passed on at age 72

Onyeka Onwenu was born on 31st January 1952.

She became a politician and rights activist who was dubbed “The Elegant Stallion” by the Nigerian press, and was at a time the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture.

In 2013, she was appointed the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development.

Onwenu is popular for her numerous songs, especially “Wait for me” which she sang with Juju meastro, King Sunny Ade

However, her family is yet to announce her passing.
