‘Unsustainable’: Unilorin Devises New Plan As Monthly Electricity Bill Leaps From N70m To N230m
The Management of the University of Ilorin‘s has decided to look for alternative measures to reduce its spending on electricity supply as the institution’s monthly tariff has jumped from N70million to N230million.
The Pendulum Media gathered that the vice chancellor of the school, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), was worried about the hike and expressed optimism that the alternative power solutions being sought by the institution will yield good results.
Describing the situation as ‘unsustainable’, Egbewole, in an email message sent to the university‘s staff and students, urged for a more responsible electricity usage, thereby asking for support to implement cost-saving measures.
Following this decision, the VC directed all new buildings under construction in the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Environmental Science, Law, and Social Sciences include provisions for alternative power sources in their design.
Adding that strategies are being developed to ensure that all faculties and units have reliable alternative power options.
He also emphasised on the importance of safeguarding the new facilities from theft and vandalism.
