Team Oyo Claims Multiple Gold Medals At 8th NYG, Asaba

The latest victories of Team Oyo has solidified its position as a top contender garnering multiple gold medals in various events at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS, Sports Reporter Tobi Ajewole gave an update on the Games in Asaba.

Ajewole in his report, said Owoyele Fathia made history by winning three gold medals in the 49kg Girls Weightlifting event, setting a new record for the highest individual gold medal haul for Team Oyo so far at the Games.

Further, Ayoola Usman and Ayatullahi Ahmed later in the day secured another gold medal for Team Oyo in the Table-tennis Boys Doubles final, defeating Team Edo 3-1 in a thrilling match.

The gold rush continued in the athletics field events, where Malachi Ayinchie Clinton won gold in the Boys Shotput event with a throw of 13.86m.

Additionally, Timileyin Olaiya added to his medal tally with a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle boys event, following his earlier silver medal win.

At the end of events of Saturday 14th 2024, Team Oyo had 6 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.
