“STUDENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO PROTEST”, SAYS S.A ON STUDENT AFFAIRS TO OYO GOVERNOR

“… ask them to pen down their demands on paper for it to be worked on and see how the Oyo State government can intervene.”

The special adviser to the Oyo state government on student affairs, Mr. Victor Olojede has aired the position of the Oyo state administration on the current situation at the Polytechnic of Ibadan.  He said, that the Seyi Makinde administration is not aware of the situation until today.

Following the peaceful protest that was staged in the early hours of today at the Polytechnic Ibadan campus, students had gathered with placards to voice out the reasons behind their protest. They echoed that their 9 -point agenda written in an earlier memo remains a pressing issue that needs urgent attention as they locked the campus gate to prevent anybody from entering.

In continual, the Student union president, Comrade Adedamola Adedeji with his other executive led a peaceful protest to the Oyo state secretariat and was attended to by the special adviser to the government on student affairs; who in turn asked them to pen down their demands on paper for it to be worked on and see how the Oyo state government can intervene.

In a dialogue with the Pendulum crew, he said, ” when we get their black and white demands, we are going to work on it. The government of Engineer Oluseyi Makinde is ever ready to do what is right for students.”

He declared that what the students have done is not out of place as “students have their right to peaceful protests and it should be done the right way. As a government, we are going to take it upon ourselves to resolve the issue”

Today is supposed to be the commencement of their second-semester examinations but this has been put on hold till further notice until their academic challenges are resolved.
