“Stay in Nigeria. I will stay with you”-Peter Obi Addresses Demoralised Nigerian Youths.
The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Wednesday, addressed Nigerian youths who are sad and are planning to leave the country as a result of the turnout of the 2023 presidential elections.
In a bid to disapprove the election verdict, Mr. Peter Obi while addressing a world press conference in Abuja said Nigerians were robbed of their true choice and he is set to challenge the results in court until he attains victory.
“Labour Party won the election and I will prove it, I will challenge this rascality for the future of the country”. He said.
Obi, while speaking during the conference advised Nigerian youths who intend to leave the country to stay as he is ready to stay with them.
“I see people telling me they want to leave the country―stay in Nigeria. I will stay with you.” He said.
He, however, assured Nigerian youths that the Labour Party will overcome and reclaim its mandate.
“I assure you, we will overcome,” he said
The former Anambra governor also shed tears while narrating his meeting with a young Nasarawa lady, who finished university in 2018 and could not secure a job anywhere and did not have just N75,000 to buy an oven to start her bakery business.
Narrating on live TV, Obi said: “One thing about me is that I always want to know what young people want. I went somewhere with my Chairman (Labour Party chairman) this afternoon and I needed to boil water for tea. I wanted to do it but she volunteered to do it.
“Along the line, I asked her name, and she told me. She said she’s from Nasarawa and a graduate of Nasarawa State University. About her school, [she] said she schooled in Nasarawa. She said she finished school in 2018 and has no work. I asked her what she was doing here and she said she wants to bake.
“When I asked why she’s not baking, she said she doesn’t have N75,000 to buy an oven [he shed tears].”
Recall the winner of the 2023 elections was credited to Bola Ahmed-Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
Tinubu’s declaration as the President-Elect gave many mixed feelings amid the controversial election results.
International observers of the election, Nigerian youths, as well as Politicians in and out of Obi’s Political party, Labour, and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), believe the election was not without faults; called for cancellation and wants a repeat of the entire process in order to achieve a credible fair and transparent election.
INEC was accused of using questionable election results which were not gotten from the BVAS and IReV according to the stipulated guideline for the election.
