Sokoto Killing: Force PRO Urges Clerics to Enlighten Followers on Blasphemy
A call for enlightenment on Blasphemy against prophets has been made by the Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi to Sokoto Clerics.
This is following the case of a Sokoto State resident, Usman Buda Mai, who was beaten to death on Sunday for degrading the personality of Prophet Muhammad.
Reacting to Usman’s death, Adejobi in a tweet on his verified handle stated that even though blasphemy is an offence in the nation’s constitution, the members of the public should not enforce the law.
He, however, called on clerics to enlighten their followers on the issues of blasphemy against prophets.
He wrote, “Sokoto command has been on it. Let’s wait for their report and action. But I think we need to call on our clerics to carry out enlightenment on this issue.
“Blasphemy, though an offence recognized by Nigerian law, is not subject to the whims of members of the public for enforcement”.
Usman Buda Mai’s death over blasphemy caused tension in parts of the state.
