Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, has made his displeasure known about the ‘Freudian slip’ committed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio before proceeding on an annual recess on Monday.
The Senate President, Akpabio mistakenly told the senators in the Upper Chamber that the clerk of the National Assembly will send some money into their various bank accounts to enable them to enjoy their holiday.
He said,“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly.”
However, the statement which Akpabio later withdrew had generated some backlash from many Nigerians who decried the insensitivity of the Senators to the plight of the suffering masses.

Senator Ndume has also added to the many reactions of Nigerians saying, there are plans to sanction him if he keeps making unguarded statements.
He also disclosed during an interview with the BBC Hausa service that Akpabio’s comments were ‘unbecoming of a leader’.
Ndume admitted that they all received some monies but it was an entitlement to a leave grant and nothing special.
He said: “It’s common knowledge that if any employee is going on leave, he/she is entitled to a leave grant. That was the money we received, and it is nothing unusual or special.
“All senators received N2 million. And I am making this comment with a heavy heart because he (Akpabio) is the cause of this controversy.
“He created an impression as if we were given some special or huge amounts of money. What’s the big deal if I receive N2 million allowance in my capacity as a senator? He made a very wrong statement, and I warned him immediately that his comments were unbecoming of an elder.
“In fact, we are even planning to take drastic action against him if he continues making unguarded statements and acting as if we are kids.”
