Rivers Police Confirm Corps Members’ Abduction

Police Command in Rivers State has confirmed the abduction of some corp members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on the East-West Road in Rivers State.

According to the police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the corps members were returning to Port Harcourt from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ondo State, when gunmen suspected to be kidnappers hijacked their bus in the Emohua axis of the East-West Road on Tuesday night.

The abduction came barely 24 hours after Dr. Chidi Lloyd, who is the chairman of Emohua local government area, placed a bounty of N1 million on a 22-year-old Onuigwe Wodi, for involvement in the killing of policemen, cultism, kidnapping, and armed robbery on the East-West Road.

Lloyd also revealed that the inability
of operatives of the Emohua Vigilante Service (EMOVIS)to check the rising crime rate in the local government area is traced to their withheld salaries.

Grace Iringe-Koko, however, told journalists in Port Harcourt that some youth corps members who escaped from the attack had been rescued; stating that tactical teams have been deployed to the area to ensure the safe release of the other abducted corps members.

Meanwhile, the number of persons who were rescued as well as the number of persons that were kidnapped are yet to be disclosed.
