PSC Chairman, Arase Condemns Killing of Cops in South East, says “We Are Your Friends”
The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, PSC Solomon Arase, has decried the continuous killing of security personnel, especially police officers, in the South East.
Arase stated that killers should understand that police officers are not their enemies but their friends as they have done nothing wrong.
The former Inspector General of Police disclosed this in a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations when leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
He noted that police officers’ wives in the zone are fast becoming widows as a result of attacks on cops by gunmen.
The leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo were however told to “let the killers know that the police is not their enemy. They have not done anything wrong. The Force has lost quite some serving officers in the South East.
“We are your friends, stop making police wives widows, they are your sisters,” Arase said.
He also said the Commission has resolved the perceived marginalisation of the zone in police representation in the country.
The leader of the Ohanaeze delegation, Elder Onwu Arua, earlier complained that the association is worried that people of the South East are not showing interest in the ongoing police recruitment exercise.
Elder Arua then urged the PSC to decide on ways of addressing the problem.
