Reports have it that The Premier Hotels, Ibadan has been shut down and the staff disengaged since the 28th of December 2022.
According to our reporter who confirmed the news claimed the hotel looked deserted when sighted along the hills in Mokola and also learned that one of the edifices of the hotel built during the defunct Western Region government has shut down.
Investigating the reason for the development, the Group Managing Director of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Adewale Raji, when contacted, debunked the news of the hotel being sold and added that the management of the hotel is making plans to upgrade its facilities, renovate it, and make it a five-star hotel
“In line with our plans to make our hotels world-class, we are renovating Premier Hotel and upgrading its facilities to make it a five-star hotel, in collaboration with a global brand chosen by the board with the help of KPMG and approval of the shareholders.”
He also added that the affected hotel workers who were laid off have been duly paid maintaining that the management of the hotel is conscious of the safety of the workers.
“We want to increase the number of rooms we have and increase the capacity of the halls. We are conscious of the health and safety of the people, so we had to disengage the employees. We had to pay all of them off.” He added.
While debunking the insinuation that the hotel had been sold, and dwelling on the rebranding, Mr. Raji said the name ‘Premier’ will be retained when it is eventually unveiled.
The hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Nigeria owned by Western Hotels Limited, a subsidiary of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, established by the defunct Western Region government.
