Pope Leo’s Inauguration: Tinubu, Obi , Fayemi Meet, Exchange Pleasantries

Peter Obi, Kayode Fayemi and President Tinubu

President, Bola Ahmed-Tinubu on Sunday met with the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, and a former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, at the Vatican during Pope Leo XIV’s installation service at the Vatican, Rome.

This is as the presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga pointed this out in a statement released on X.

Sharing pictures, Onanuga said Fayemi had sighted Tinubu and asked Obi to follow him to pay homage to Tinubu, which the former Anambra governor agreed to.

Onanuga said, “On getting to the President, Fayemi broke the ice between Obi and Tinubu. He said: ‘Mr. President, welcome to our church, and thank you for honouring the Pope with your presence.’

He said, “President Tinubu, ever quick-witted, responded: ‘I should be the one welcoming you and Peter. I’m the Head of the Nigerian Delegation’.”

Responding, Obi was quoted as saying: “Yes, indeed. We are members of your delegation”.

Peter Obi in a post tagged, ‘A Shared Journey of Faith: Kayode Fayemi and I at the Vatican’ also took a swipe on his meeting with President Tinubu at the event.

In the statement, he wrote in part,
“Today’s event was particularly special, as it marked the beginning of a new papacy. I exchanged warm greetings with President Bola Tinubu and was pleased to see the diverse gathering of world leaders and pilgrims who came in faith and unity.”
