Police Thwart Child Trafficking Attempt, Rescue Five Minors In Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has frustrated a child trafficking plot, rescuing five minors from the grip of suspected traffickers.
Spokesperson of the Command,
SP Josephine Adeh in a statement said the operatives arrested two female suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, on April 27, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m at Kagini Junction, Abuja.
In a report by Vanguard, the suspects were intercepted while attempting to convey the five children into the Federal Capital Territory.
“The suspects, who initially attempted to escape arrest from Sokoto police operatives, were finally apprehended by our eagle-eyed officers in Abuja,” Adeh stated.
The rescued children, whose ages range from 6 to 12 years old, have been handed over to the Sokoto State Police Command for further investigation and reunification with their families.
CP Benneth C. Igweh, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command also pointed out that the Command is working towards the safe release of the victims to their parents.
“We are working closely with our counterparts in Sokoto to ensure that the children are safely returned to their loved ones,”.
He, however, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to combating child trafficking and other crimes in the FCT.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents, especially our children,” he emphasized.
The suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The FCT command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, assuring that the police will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of all.
