Officers from the Ekiti State Police Command on Friday prevented an attack on the State’s House of Assembly.
The alleged hoodlums allegedly attempted to enter the Assembly complex believing that police officers who had already besieged the building for four days had left.
The thugs were armed with cutlasses and Jerry cans filled with gasoline, ready to torch the building.
The fled suspected arsonists were captured by the local police officers, who also discovered the fuel and six cutlasses that they had left behind.
CSP Sunday Abutu, the public relations officer for the Ekiti State Police Command, revealed that the invasion took place in the early hours of Friday morning.
The development, he continued, had validated the intelligence data that the Command had obtained about a week earlier, requiring the sending of additional soldiers to guard the complex.
CSP Abutu declared that the investigation had been launched to apprehend the culprits, and he pleaded with the public to share accurate information and adopt security awareness.
