Palliatives: AAC Chairman Rejects 4 Bags of Rice, Says Party Not a Refugee Camp
Four bags of rice allegedly sent to the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the African Action Congress, AAC, by the Federal government as palliative to cushion the effects of the removal of the fuel subsidy has been rejected.
AAC chairman in the state, Elder Utip Etiebiet, described the palliative arrangement as one that was intentionally devised “to mock and manipulate the intelligence of Nigerians”.
The chairman, Etiebet lamented that the palliative was politicised and shared based on political party lines in the state.
Etiebet, who spoke in Uyo, the state capital, disclosed that the party had returned its share of four bags of rice received from the state government through the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, which disbursed the relief materials. Adding that a letter has been sent to IPAC to that effect.
“Following the stand of my party, African Action Congress, AAC, that the palliative by the Federal Government of Nigeria is a ruse, deceitful and a dubious way of acting on the intelligence of Nigerians, we hereby reject the rice offer of four bags that were offered to the party.
“AAC is not a refugee camp, and we never acted beggarly to warrant four bags of rice to be sent to the office. Our members have unanimously said that they do not have to survive on palliative since AAC is not a refugee camp.” Etiebet said.
