
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF has shown sadness over the unfortunate stampede that happened in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Recall, over 30 children were reportedly killed in the stampede which has led to the arrest of the organisers which include the principal of the secondary school used, former wife of the Oni of Ife, Naomi among other suspects.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also ordered a probe into the tragic incident.
The forum commiserated with the NGF Vice Chairman, Governor Seyi Makinde, the families of the victims, and the people of Oyo State.
A statement by the forum on Friday morning read:
“We join in this national mourning and our hearts are with everyone concerned, especially as the festive season begins!
“We join Mr President to call for the immediate probe of the stampede to forestall the reoccurrence of such sad incidents in any part of the country.
“We pray that God gives solace to the bereaved families and rest the souls of the little children that we lost in the incident,” the statement issued by the chairman of the forum, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq added.
